2nd Annual 4&20 Blackbird Festival Expected To Draw Thousands To Weed CA
Founded By Producer Sylvia Massy, The 2-Day All-ages Event Will Feature 125 Bands On 12 Stages With Surprise Musical Celebrity Guest Appearances And Spontaneous Performances Encompassing The Town.
- Redding, CA (1888PressRelease) June 24, 2012 - Starting August 4th and 5th 2012 from 11am to 11pm, the tiny town of Weed in Northern California will be a place to satisfy all musical tastes as musicians from as far away as London and Australia will converge with music ranging from indie rock, country, jazz, and eclectic genres. Partnering this year with the Weed Chamber of Commerce, the festival will also feature local and regional vendors along with themed artistic booths and food from the town's premiere restaurants as well as a car show and after hours dance party and various art installations. As proceeds from last year's successful event went to the installation and purchase of the Main Street Clock, a portion of proceeds from this year's festival will be put toward further improvements to the town's central park.
Weed, which is the halfway point between Los Angeles and Seattle where Interstate 5 and Hwy 97 meet, is officially recognized as part of the Volcanic Scenic Byway, a 500-mile route beginning in California's Lake Amador basin and ending at Crater Lake in Oregon. "It's a town that so many people pass through to get to larger areas" states Blackbird Festival creator Sylvia Massy. "We recognize the importance of historical cities like Weed and feel it is our responsibility to secure its place on the map. Without support from the general public, towns like Weed, CA are easily dismissed, making the 4&20 Blackbird Festival crucial to its survival."
The Festival got its name from the well known nursery rhyme which is a play on the name of the town combined with an all ages family theme.
Massy, who is well known as a music producer for the first two albums by the progressive metal band Tool, also is known for her late 90's partnerships with producer Rick Rubin as engineer/ mixer on albums for such artists as The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, System of a Down's debut album, and Johnny Cash, whose 1997 album "Unchained" won a Grammy for Best Country Artist. Massy moved to Weed CA with husband Greg Shivy where they acquired the Historic 1920's Weed Palace Theater in 2001 renovating it into a recording studio known as Radiostar Studios.
Tickets for the festival start at $25 for a single day pass and $50 for 2-day packages. Additional packages are also available for access to additional events.
