2019 – The 60th Anniversary of Lakewood Camping Resort
Lakewood Camping Resort turns 60 years old in 2019.
- Myrtle Beach-Conway-North Myrtle Beach, SC (1888PressRelease) April 05, 2019 - Lakewood Camping Resort, Myrtle Beach's iconic family vacation destination, celebrates its 60th Anniversary this year.
Visionaries Carl and Mary Perry founded Lakewood Camping Resort in 1959. The first of its kind, Lakewood has grown over the past six decades to be one of the largest camping resorts in the world. Known for its beautiful location and tranquil atmosphere, the breathtaking resort is nestled along a half-mile stretch of sandy beach with luxurious amenities spread across 200 acres of prime oceanfront property. Amid the beauty and lure, the original 125-site venture transformed to include more than 1,900 sites for camping, as well as vacation villas with full amenities.
Lakewood Camping Resort began as the first privately owned campground on the Grand Strand. The passion and dedication envisioned by the Perry's sixty years ago remain with their children and grandchildren today as they continue the legacy. Don Perry, eldest son and President of Lakewood Camping Resort explains, "We have always started the brainstorming process with the simple question, 'What is it that a young family wants out of a vacation, and how can we give it to them?’ One of the ways that we answer that question is by the sharing of new ideas from all generations of our family so that we can continue to evolve and to meet the modern needs of the young families that we serve."
Today, the innovative spirit born at the company’s inception and passed down through the generations is alive and well. The family strives to remain the standard by which all other camping resorts are measured. An award-winning oceanfront full sized water park, a fitness center, restaurants and food trucks, an indoor pool, beachfront playground, beachfront volleyball and basketball courts, free bike rentals, golf cart rentals, multiple watercrafts disposals, are a few of the ways the resort has achieved that goal thus far.
With those grand achievements considered, the most important innovations to date have been in the area of technology. In 2015, the resort developed a wristband system to make it easier for guests to use amenities around the park. Then, in 2016, that technology was enhanced to include the option to use the waterproof wristbands as a wallet, making the entire experience cashless. Along with the new technology came the "My Lakewood Guest Portal" allowing guests to conveniently add or transfer money to and from their wristbands, see specials that are running around the resort, and take advantage of another resort feature -- the "Lakewood Loyalty Program. This program allows guests to earn points that translate into spendable credits on their next visit.
To wrap up the ultimate guest experience, guests have the option to pre-register weeks prior to their planned visit and have the ability of an express check-in. Recognizing that every moment of family vacation time is precious, the pre-registration and express check-in was designed to provide guests with the ability to bypass check-in lines and avoid filling out paperwork with the front office upon arrival.
"Our family has put a lot of energy into our family business so that we can continue to serve your family for generations to come," Mr. Perry shares, concluding, "Being around for 60 years has allowed us to become extremely knowledgeable about the industry and guests, and a lot more industry changing innovations have already been developed."
The hard work and innovative mindset of Lakewood’s family and staff has paid off in most importantly, customer satisfaction, followed by industry recognition. Over the years, Lakewood has been the recipient of some of the most prestigious awards in the industry such as:
• Mega Park of the Year by the National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds (2011-2012)
• Plan-It-Green by the National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds (2011 and 2012)
• The Official Best Campground in South Carolina by Bestof.com (2012 and 2013)
