  • Denver, CO (1888PressRelease) June 17, 2014 - The National Education Association (NEA), the leading professional organization and the biggest labor union in the US representing faculty and staff at colleges and universities, public school teachers, retired educators, college students aspiring to become teachers, and other support personnel, hosts its 152nd Annual Meeting and 93rd Representative Assembly (RA) from June 26 to July 6, 2014, in Denver, Colo. About 9,000 educators from every state are expected to gather at the Annual Meeting and Assembly to address the pressing problems facing students, schools, and teaching profession.

    The Representative Assembly, the topmost and largest democratic deliberative body with nearly 3 million NEA members, will develop and introduce Association policy for the coming year. All delegates will adopt the strategic plan and budget, legislative programs, resolutions, and other policies of the Association. They will be voting using secret ballot technique on the proposed amendments to the NEA's Constitution. The NEA convention will be visiting Denver for the first time since 1962. It will be bringing an estimated $35 million to the local economy.

    The agenda of 2014 National Association Education Annual Meeting, RA, and pre-convention activities has a list of events for the welfare of the educational faculty and students. Joint Conference on Concerns of Minorities and Women, which will be hosted on June 29 and June 30 by NEA, sports theme known as 'Action Now: Unleashing the Power of Diversity'. It will promote social justice activities of NEA minorities and women. On July 1, NEA's Read Across America will organize a special book fair event at Denver Public Library with approximately 200 local students to promote the significance of the summer reading.     At 'Raise Your Hand' on Empowered Educators Day on July 2, more than 1,200 educator leaders and RA representatives will remain present to observe the displayed work of educator innovators who play a vital role in quality instruction and students' success. On July 3, NEA will honor Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick with commendable 'America's Greatest Education Governor' award. NEA Executive Director John Stocks will deliver his speech at 12.30 pm covering topics such as equity, social justice, organizing, and professional advocacy on July 4. Sean McComb, 2014 National Teacher of the Year, will address delegates on July 5. On the last day of the event, i.e. on July 6, NEA will award the highest honor 'Friend of Education Award' to educational advocate Malala Yousafzai.
