2012 Atlanta ITF To Be Held At Sandy Springs Tennis Center: Atlanta ITF Hosts The World's Best Jr. Tennis Players.
- (1888PressRelease) October 29, 2012 - Atlanta, GA - Lifetime Athletic & Tennis is proud to present the 2012 Atlanta Jr. International Tennis Federation Tournament (ITF). Junior tennis players from the US and around the globe, including Russia, Brazil and Germany are descending on Atlanta for the opportunity to compete amongst the best international junior tennis athletes in the world. The main draw begins Monday, October 29 running through Saturday November 3rd at Sandy Springs Tennis Center in Atlanta, GA.
Sanjay Jayaram, Atlanta ITF Tournament Director and Director of Jr. Tennis of Lifetime Athletic & Tennis, in Norcross, GA, stated, "The Atlanta ITF is part of a series of tournaments on the ITF Jr. Circuit. It's also one of a series of tournaments in the United States where we have the top juniors in the world competing for points. Most of these players have a legitimate shot at the grand slam juniors including the US Open, Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon, so it's a pretty big event."
The Junior World Ranking circuit was started by the ITF in 1977 in fact John McEnroe won all three tournaments he played finishing third in the overall standings. It took recently, retired World No. 1 American Andy Roddick just three years to rise from year-end junior No.1 in 2000 to year-end No.1 as a professional. Additionally, in 2000 Roddick won both the US Open and Australian Open junior singles titles. Set to chase similar success are Jordi Arconada (Argentina) and Kristina Chasovskikh (Russia), respectively, the boys and girls, No. 1 seeds at this years' Atlanta ITF. Jayaram commented, "The Atlanta Jr. ITF is a G4, which still attracts not only local players, but players from within the region. This event attracts the best juniors from the United States, Latin American countries, the Carribean, and several players from Asia and Europe as well."
Lifetime Athletic & Tennis, formerly, Racquet Club of the South: host of the 2011 Kia Motors Australian Open Wild Card Playoff and the 2011 Atlanta Tennis Championships, is the 2012 presenting sponsor of the Atlanta Jr. ITF. Lifetime Fitness is expanding its vision for tennis within the corporation, which includes making Atlanta its' tennis headquarters. Jayaram, concludes, "Having acquired Racquet Club of the South, our company is investing heavily into making Lifetime Athletic & Tennis into a premiere tour stop on the international junior and professional tennis circuit. Atlanta is a hotbed for tennis simply because we have such a large base of an active tennis playing population. I would say close to 30% of the draw is from in and around Atlanta. So that's a good thing to see. It's encouraging to see Georgia's junior tennis players competing at the national level. So, I'm hopeful that we'll continue to produce many more premiere players." Additionally, Lifetime Athletic and Tennis is also hosting the 2012 Australian Open Wildcard in December.
