2011 Mariposa Charity Figure Skating Gala
The 22nd annual Mariposa Charity Figure Skating Gala will take place on Thursday, August 4th at 7pm at the Barrie Molson Centre.
- (1888PressRelease) June 07, 2011 - This wonderful evening of World Class Skating Stars is presented by the Rotary Club of Barrie-Huronia, and the Mariposa School of Skating.
The early look at talented stars to-date includes:
JEFFREY BUTTLE, World Champion
NOBUNARI ODA, Former Japanese men's Champion, Olympic/World Competitor
ANNABELLE LANGLOIS & CODY HAY Canadian Champions, Olympic /World Competitor
ALEXANDRA PAUL & MITCHEL ISLAM Canadian Champions and World Junior competitor
Each year at this event our audience is enthralled by an incredible line-up of past, present and future World and Olympic Champions. The list of skating stars will continue to grow as the event gets closer.
Over the years, the gala has raised over $1 million for local charities. The 2011 gala will for the seventh year; support "Rotary House" a residential lodge for patients receiving treatment at Royal Victoria Hospital's Simcoe Muskoka Regional Cancer Centre. Rotary House will provide patients and their families who have to travel more than 40 km for treatment a place to rest and recover instead of having to endure travel when they are probably the sickest they have ever been in their lives.
The Rotary Club of Barrie-Huronia has supported the dream of families staying together during cancer treatment, and earlier this year, construction on Rotary Place, which will be home to Rotary House began, adjacent to the cancer centre.
