2 Varga Shows Celebrate WOMEN in Williamsport, PA & Woodstock, NY
The latest in ongoing series of VARGA Girl collage works by Christina Varga goes on display at The Pajama Factory in Williamsport, PA this weekend followed by "THEMA FEMINA" the 7th Annual February WOMEN'S SHOW at VARGA Gallery in Woodstock, NY featuring Philly / KONDOR8 - noted outsider artist, actor and activist from NYC's Lower East Side.
- (1888PressRelease) February 01, 2011 - This Friday, February 4, 2011 the VARGA Gallery's founder and curator Christina Varga will present the latest creations in the ongoing series of VARGA Girls at "VARGA (Insouciant digs at post-feminist archetypes of female sexuality)" opening at The Pajama Factory in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. This is Varga's first solo show of 2011 and another in a line of exhibits celebrating Varga's collage works which incorporate images of women clipped from various vintage erotic publications such as Playboy, Oui, Penthouse, VIVA, Hustler and other such magazines all circa 60's and 70's. The series have traveled from Virginia to Ohio to Holland and are continuing their parade to Pennsylvania.
"The VARGA Girls are a natural evolution of my work which has always focused on the feminine and the spiritual. I find them inevitable. There were only so many times I could be asked "like the VARGA Girls?' and not come up with this." The series ranges from works on canvas and wood boards to VARGA Girl Gift Cards, collectible Artist Trading Cards, prints and stickers. WXPI Radio will be on hand for all the music and art events happening at the Pajama Factory. The event begins at 6 p.m in Williamsport, PA at the Pajama Factory at the Graphic Hive Gallery - 1307 Park Avenue, Williamsport, PA.
In Woodstock on Saturday and Sunday, February 5 & 6th the VARGA Gallery will be taking in works for the 7th Annual February Exhibit dedicated to WOMEN titled "THEMA FEMINA". The 7th Anniversary Women's exhibit features the incredible works and talents of multi-faceted artist Philly/KONDOR8. "THEMA FEMINA" opens Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 6pm and runs through Sunday, March 6, 2011.
Featured artists is Philly / KONDOR 8 who hails from the Lower East Side, celebrates activism through her art and works in all media from music and film to spray paint and collage. She is a noted and celebrated outsider artist whose work has been exhibited at the Phyllis Kind Gallery in NYC, The Judy A. Saslow Gallery in Chicago, on the cover of RAW VISION Magazine, in the centerfold of TIME Magazine and countless other exhibits and publications. Her film projects include "The Endless Possibility of Sky" currently in production with indie queer-filmmaker Todd Verow, Venus Boyz, and a host of appearances, cameos and roles in underground films. Her work will be presented in the Zebra Room at VARGA Gallery and include a variety of works spanning her career.
