  • (1888PressRelease) October 23, 2010 - Between 24 January and 26 January 2011, over 500 exhibitors from around the world, and 3,000 visitors, are expected to visit the trade show at the Montpellier Exhibition Centre. This professional trade show is recognised as one of the most important events in the industry's calendar.

Over three days, there will be prizes awarded for the Challenge Millésime Bio contest, wine tasting areas for visitors to taste these prize-winning wines along with wines from other winegrowers, and an organic lunch, which will be organised for members of the press and professional wine buyers. The trade show will also feature an organic dinner, which will be served to music, and a tasting of all the prize-winning wines, along with other wines selected by the exhibitors themselves.

In 2010, 491 exhibitors attended the trade show, all of whom were producers or wholesalers. These exhibitors hailed from Argentina, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Romania, South Africa, Switzerland, and the United States. In all, 2700 professional visitors attended, from over 25 countries outside France, and from across Europe, North America and Japan.

Key data about the market for organic wine illustrates its growing importance: 39,000 hectares of land in France alone are devoted to the production of organic wine, which represents a rise of 39% (2009 as compared to 2008). The number of vineyards following the principles of organic farming has increased by 31% between 2008 and 2009 (2,301 and 3,024 respectively). Three French regions share two thirds of the surface area of certified vineyards: Languedoc-Roussillon (12,661 hectares, up by 52% on last year), followed by the Provence-Côte d'Azur region (8,981 hectares, up by 35% in one year), and Aquitaine (5,463 hectares, up 45% in one year).

Worldwide, France ranks second behind Italy, and, in terms of consumption, the turnover figures for organic products in hypermarkets and supermarkets rose by 30% between 2008 and 2009, while sales of organic wine rose by 65%. Organic products in general are becoming more popular, with 46% of French consumers stating that they consumed at least one organic product per month in 2009.

    About Millésime Bio
The Millésime Bio trade show was launched in 1993 by a small number of Languedoc-Roussillon winegrowers who organised it to stimulate interest in, and to encourage a constructive dialogue around organic wine.

The trade show is organised by the Association Interprofessionnelle des Vins Biologiques du Languedoc-Roussillon (AIVB-LR), the trade association for organic-wine producers in Languedoc-Roussillon.

The 2011 Millésime trade show takes place from Monday 24 January to Wednesday 26 January 2011, in the Montpellier Exhibition Centre, in Montpellier (in southern France).
