Garden Art Silent Auction at Sherway Gardens - JUNE 4-19.
- (1888PressRelease) May 04, 2011 - Visit Sherway Gardens' 11th Annual Garden Art Silent Auction for a chance to bid on an original piece of art! Local Canadian artists have transformed 30 folding White Pine Muskoka chairs and four children's chairs into works of art in support of the Neilson Park Creative Centre. In addition to the chairs designed by local artists, renowned designer Glen Peloso has returned for a second year to create a chair for this year's Garden Art Silent Auction. Glen is the Principal Designer of Glen Peloso Interiors, Inc., and has been designing spaces for commercial, corporate, and residential clients for fifteen years. Glen is known from hosting such television design shows as Restaurant Makeover and Take This House & Sell It. Glen is a designer who is committed to creating spaces that are not only functional but adapt to your way of living. By combining client's needs with current trends, classic pieces, and green initiatives, Glen creates environments for clients that are true expressions of who they are, and living spaces that reflect their lifestyles!
WHEN: Chairs are available for silent bidding during regular mall hours from Saturday, June 4 until Sunday, June 19
WHERE: Sherway Gardens (Hwy 427 & the QEW) in Sherway Square
AUCTION ITEMS: White pine Muskoka chairs painted and decorated by local artists to be auctioned off by silent auction. (30 adult folding chairs that are easy to store and transport and four kids chairs)
GUEST ARTISTS: Glen Peloso, Glen Peloso Interiors - Muskoka Boat Races
LOCAL ARTISTS: Local artists include designers, painters, printmakers, quilters, handweavers, calligraphers, sculptors and cartoonists, instructors, artists running their own full-time studios, and representatives of many arts organizations.
BIDDING: Silent bidding only. There will also be a "BUY IT NOW" feature - allowing customers to take the item off the bidding sheet by paying an asking price. ALL items will remain on display until Sunday, June 19. All successful bidders will be notified by phone on Monday, June 20. (The Bid Book is located at the entrance to the display at the south end of Sherway Square).

Neilson Park Creative Centre (NPCC) is a great example of a partnership between the community and the City. As a non-profit corporation, NPCC generates approximately 80% of it's own operating revenue through membership fees, programming and fundraising. Neilson Park Creative Centre is a creative arts facility built in Etobicoke in 1992 and operated in co-operation with the City of Toronto by a non-profit corporation. It is managed by a volunteer Board of Directors that includes representatives from the six Resident Groups and the community. The Centre is home to the Etobicoke Handweavers and Spinners Guild, the Etobicoke Quilters Guild, Heritage Rugcrafters of Etobicoke, Humber Valley Art Club, The Etobicoke Art Group and the Calligraphic Arts Guild of Toronto. The fully accessible facility provides a community focus for creative visual arts in west Toronto. Art programs for adults and children are offered throughout the year in the four studios, and the public are invited to visit the 2 public galleries.
