  • (1888PressRelease) January 27, 2022 - Washington - As part of the #WICxALLIES campaign, Women in Cloud partners with tech-industry leader Gavriella Schuster to recognize the individuals who demonstrate allyship by empowering women through Advocacy, Listening, Lifting, Including, Elevating and Sponsoring.
Women make up more than half of the US population and are getting more college degrees than men but only hold roughly 25 per cent of leadership roles - while less than 5 per cent of leadership positions in tech companies are held by women.

The WICxALLIES Awards celebrates the achievements of three leaders who are building for inclusion through their everyday actions to bring more women into their network, organization and leadership roles. More than 35 individuals, representing many of technology's most influential brands and leaders, were nominated for their overall allyship, advocacy and sponsorship efforts.

“Allies play a critical role in empowering women to lead with their authentic voice and share their unique perspectives - essentially to unlock diversity. To empower somebody to speak up, to be themselves, to bring their best self to work, to aspire to do more and do better, and be real is the core of building an inclusive culture. At the root, it is allyship itself that empowers. I applaud the award winners for practicing allyship every day, for empowering the people around them and building an inclusive environment.” said Gavriella Schuster, Global Business Executive.

    WICxALLIES Award Winners for 2022:
Overall Allyship Award – John Dathan - General Manager and Senior Vice President, Insight Canada

Sponsor Award – Nathan Chung - Senior Consultant, Azure Cloud & AI, Microsoft

Advocate Award – Glynis Bryan - CFO, Insight Canada

Winners were announced in a virtual awards ceremony on January 26, 2022 at Women in Cloud’s Annual Summit, and were presented their awards by Gavriella Schuster.

“Allyship is about those of us who can, truly enabling and empowering the women in our network to grow and flourish. I feel very fortunate to be in that position” said John Dathan, winner of the Overall Allyship Award.

In order to further reach, recruit and recognize the allies in the Women in Cloud community, a corresponding social media campaign kicked off following the awards ceremony to share Gavriella’s unique framework which sets out the behaviors that allies can demonstrate every day, and the actionable steps allies do to build healthier workplace cultures, while showcasing those who are making a difference.

“The winners of the #WICxALLIES Awards understand that the roadmap to increasing representation of women in technology is driven by sustainable collective action. Our winners are thought leaders, innovators, and champions of change, and we are proud to be able to celebrate their achievements and work through these awards,” said Chaitra Vedullapalli, CEO and Co-Founder of Women in Cloud.

The #WICxALLIES Awards will return in 2023, with nominations set to open in December 2022. To learn more about the inaugural award winners, please visit the WICxALLIES page at https://womenincloud.com/wic-allies/.
