Although a work of fiction, Tinseltown was inspired in part by historical circumstances at Universal Studios. In 1916, Universal was a kind of proto-feminist organization that was run as a virtually independent city from Los Angeles that had a female mayor, female police chief, and female police officers. The officers functioned as a cross between lot security guards and performers that were there to amuse and assist the tourists. The powers that be however, were also not above exploiting those officers to appeal to the public's more prurient interests by marching them in short skirts in parades.
Tinseltown is also a tribute to author David Lucarelli’s mother, Officer Miriam Lucarelli who proudly served as a Pittsburgh Police Officer for over twenty years.
Tinseltown marks the fifth collaboration between writer David Lucarelli and artist Henry Ponciano. “We’ve been making comics for about a decade now, and this is our best work yet, ” remarked writer David Lucarelli
