- Honolulu, HI (1888PressRelease) May 05, 2011 - Kekauleleanae'ole Kawai'ae'a, the 11-year-old author of "Kohala Kuamo'o: Nae'o'le's Race to Save a King" - the true story of King Kamehameha - will be the featured guest on the next episode of Neil Tepper's "The Creativity Salon" Friday, May 6, 2011.
In this episode, titled "Follow Your Vision," Tepper and Kekauleleanae'ole, a Kamehameha Schools Kapālama sixth-grader, will explore the experience of becoming a first-time author at such a remarkable age.
The episode also features Kekauleleanae'ole's father Aaron Kawai'ae'a, who served as the book's illustrator, as well as his grandfather, storyteller Walter Kawai'ae'a. The discussion will delve into how this book is sharing the mo'olelo (story) of their ancestor, Nae'ole, with the world - and its unexpected impact in Hawaii and abroad.
Three generations of the Kawai'ae'a family joined together to create "Kohala Kuamo'o: Nae'o'le's Race to Save a King," which offers a unique look at key events that shaped Hawaiian history.
Published by Kamehameha Publishing, the first printing commemorated the 200-year anniversary of Kamehameha's unification of the Hawaiian Islands under one rule in 1810. "Kohala Kuamo'o: Nae'o'le's Race to Save a King" recently won the bronze award for Best Illustrator at the 2010 Independent Publisher's Moonbeam Children's Book Awards, an international competition that attracted more than 800 nominations
