"Spotlight" to showcase the people and ideas helping to inspire economic progress.
(1888PressRelease) October 29, 2010 - In these hard economic times, Americans are becoming more money conscious. With the stock markets dwindling and unemployment on the rise, many are beginning to buy less, save more and make significant changes to their lifestyle. Yet despite these adjustments, the recession continues to take a considerable toll on families.
According to a recent Pew survey, "Americans have changed their lifestyles in many different ways to make ends meet during this recession. Seventy-one percent of those polled have bought less expensive brands, 57% have cut back or canceled vacation plans, 3 in 10 have cut back on alcohol or cigarette consumption and 24% among adults ages 18 to 29 have moved back in with their parents." Though the current economic status has made an impact, people are striving to make the most of their situation. In fact, research shows that more Americans are choosing to prepare more meals at home rather than eating out. People are also trying their hand at gardening and growing their own fruits and vegetables. Sales of standalone freezers have increased as people are beginning to buy in bulk during sales. Also, rather than throwing things away, people are attempting to fix and reuse what they have.
Although the daunting reality of the recession is present, the American mindset of "do-it-yourself" seems to be resurfacing, and with it hope. "Spotlight" would like to showcase the people and organizations helping to inspire and encourage growth during this rough economic time. "It's our goal to produce segments that will teach people to always press on no matter what hardships they face. We want people to know that they are still capable of achieving their goals," said the Executive Producer of the series.
