"Makua Charley" Horror Movie to Film in Hawaii
A new horror movie entitled "Makua Charley", based on the Hawaiian legendary shark-man, prepares to film (with a little help from their friends).
- Honolulu, HI (1888PressRelease) February 08, 2012 - Al & Jayne Cloutier of World Class Productions LLC are gearing up to film an independent film in the horror genre, based on an ancient Hawaiian legend.
Folks are disappearing from the Shark's Cove youth hostel on the North Shore of O'ahu. When young Karen Palmer visits for a two week vacation, she meets a handsome and charming local boy named Charley. He promises to show her some sights "off the normal tourist path". Karen finds herself irresistibly drawn to her mysterious tour guide. When her two new friends, Mona and Lester, warn her that there is something fishy about Charley, Karen ignores their advice. She falls deeply under the spell of Charley's good looks and suave island charm. Unfortunately, Charley is the embodiment of an ancient Polynesian curse, and he's torn between his basic human nature and his predatory killer instincts. "Makua Charley" is a feeding frenzy of horror set amidst the gently swaying palm trees of idylic Hawaii. In this paradise turned to hell, the scent of fresh spilled blood is carried on a tropical breeze.
"Makua Charley" is a feature-length horror film written and directed by Al & Jayne Cloutier. Currently in pre-production, this movie will be filmed on location in Honolulu, Hawaii. Shooting begins in spring 2012, with a projected release date of September 2013. As many independent filmmakers are doing these days, Al & Jayne will be seeking funding from the crowd source venue of KickStarter.
Here's what Jayne had to say about KickStarter: "We're so excited to be raising funds through KickStarter! It's not only an opportunity to make a really fantastic film but also to share some totally neat rewards with our supporters. We've decided to try and raise some money to hire some superbly talented actors for a few weeks, bust out our movie equipment, edit the footage into an a ninety minute film, and even have the movie show in theaters! It might seem like a lot of money but it's really only a teensy fraction of what most movies are made for. We're setting the goal low, so we can hopefully reach it, but if we can raise more, that will make for an even better film! More money equals blockbuster hit, you know what I'm saying? And since it's us, you know the movie is going to be crazy awesome! You wanna pledge your support don't you?"
How Kickstarter works: People pledge an amount and choose a reward. At the end of Al & Jayne's 60-day Kickstarter campaign, if the combined total of all pledges for their project meets their $7,777 goal, then the credit cards of those who pledge are charged and they will receive the funds to finish the film. If they don't meet their goal, then the money is not withdrawn from any accounts and no rewards are provided : (If they exceed their $7,777 goal then the extra funds will be used to make the movie even better! All funds raised are used directly to pay the actors in Jayne and Al's new film.
