The company is celebrating the Silver Jubilee Year and as a responsible corporate they are furthering the cause of 'Education for All' through this film, a mission that is close to their heart and a movement they have been associated with since inception. Commencing in Kolkata 'I am Kalam' will further travel to Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Delhi and Mumbai. The film has already travelled to 25 international film festivals and has won 1 National Award and 11 international awards.

This pre-release 5 city tour is purposed to sensitize the opinion makers of all the cities about the important message of 'Compulsory Education for Children' that I' am Kalam' conveys. Since opinion makers have great influence on the masses, turning them into individual representatives of the cause would progressively result in mass sensitization; the main objective of this award winning feature film.

Present for the Kolkata tour were the entire cast of 'I am Kalam' including actors Gulshan Grover, 58th National Award winner Harsh Mayar, Pitobash Tripathy, Husaan Saad and Beatrice Ordeix. Also present at the event were director Nila Madhab Panda, producer Santanu Mishra and associate producer Jitendra Mishra.

Centuryply, the market leader of plywood & veneer industry in India, has associated with I am Kalam as the presenting partner. Century Plyboards (I) Ltd., makers of the well-known 'Centuryply' brand of Plywood and decorative veneers, was set up in 1986 in Kolkata, and is a joint effort of Mr. Sajjan Bhajanka and Mr. Sanjay Agarwal. The largest seller of plywood and decorative veneers in the Indian organized plywood market, Centuryply today is the leading brand and in its short duration of existence has created a special niche for itself in the industry. Commenting on this association, Mr. Abhra Banerjee, VP marketing, CenturyPly, said, "Education for All is a cause so very dear to our heart that when this proposal came in we were all smiles and exuberant to be a part of this. This year is our Silver Jubilee year and what better way can it be, to promote a cause that is a mission for Centuryply. 'I am Kalam' is such a movie that being associated with this is an honour in itself."

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Santanu Mishra Co-Founder & Executive Trustee, Smile Foundation said "When we were making the film, we never expected it will win hearts of people across the world. We had just focused on making a special film and our efforts have paid off. It certainly feels very good that we have been able to draw attention of people across the world irrespective of their race, ethnicity, age and interest towards this cause of sending every child to school. Our goal is almost accomplished given the overwhelming response the film has got the world over. And once it gets the similar kind of response from the Indian audience at its theatrical release scheduled for this August, the full circle of accomplishments will finally be etched. We are very thankful to Centuryply to have associated with us as the promoter of the film. Their support has been invaluable. Our country needs more such socially responsible corporates."

'I am Kalam' is the feature debut of director Nila Madhab Panda and has been produced by Smile Foundation, a national level development organization in India. It is the first feature film ever to be produced by a development organization and has so far won 12 national and international awards including the 58th National Award for the hero of the film, twelve years old Harsh Mayar.

I am Kalam is the story of a child and his struggles to pursue his dreams and to surpass the boundaries of reality. It is a story of redemption, of the need to provide education to the underclass and to equalize social inequities. Set in Bikaner, Rajasthan, the film revolves around the struggles of the protagonist - Chhotu, and is symbolic to the struggle of millions of such children in the country and how the civil society looks at the depravity but does not lift a finger to do anything about it. What is unique about the film is that while focusing on the grave issue of child labour, it is not preachy and boring. It is a very simple narrative and does not follow the clichéd way of pitting the protagonist against a slave driver. Instead, the story draws its strength from the protagonist's friendship with the local prince his age and their learning from each other.

The film is certainly an awaited treat in store for those who love meaningful yet entertaining cinema.
