  • (1888PressRelease) March 07, 2019 - Home renovations and building projects may seem like an unlikely space for a charity drive, but a group of Perth tradies have committed to giving a portion of every job to help families in India.

Modus Property, which is headquartered in Cannington, has partnered with CINI Australia (Children In Need India), which supports children who are effected by HIV/AIDS and their families.

"The message is pretty simple, while repairing homes for Australians, we'd also like to do our small bit to repair things that are wrong with the world," Modus Property managing director Tim Mathews said.

"We have a team of outstanding people who are committed to more than just making a buck," Mr. Mathews said.

By committing to contributing a portion of revenue from every job to a worthy cause, Modus Property has so far averaged $2463.00 in donations each month.

Modus Property chose to partner with CINI after Mr. Mathews posted his charity plan on Facebook and opportunities came flooding in.

"After my brother and co-owner Ben Mathews and I met with the founder Dr Jennie Connaughton, her commitment was apparent right away, the cause was outstanding, and it felt like the perfect fit for Modus," Mr. Mathews said.

The donations are being used to fund CINI's IICCHAAA program (Indian initiative for child centered HIV/AIDS approach) which supports children who are affected by HIV/AIDS and reaches 200 children in 176 families in West Bengal, India.

The IICCHAA families and children are not only desperately poor, they are shunned from their communities because of an illness beyond their control.

Quality nutrition is the first step and the journey starts by ensuring the families receive essential foods such as oil, lentils, rice, flour and nuts.

But the main focus of the program is to give a hand up, not just a hand out. With the help of CINI's outreach workers the families are educated about the disease and assisted with working through the stigmas that surround HIV/AIDS in India. They are educated about the available medications, empowered to regain control of their lives, re-join their communities and start to hope again. The program would be unable to continue in its current capacity without the donations from Modus Property.
