"Halfway To Hell" Selected As An Opening Night Featured Film For The Action On Film International Film Festival
The Film Has Been Nominated For Four Major Awards Including "Best Director".
- (1888PressRelease) August 14, 2013 - The latest film from veteran television and film director, Richard Friedman, is set to screen on opening night of the Action On Film International Film Festival in Monrovia, California this Friday. The film, "Halfway To Hell," is nominated for four major awards including 'Best Director," 'Best Score," "Best Editing," and "Best Supporting Actor."
"Halfway to Hell" is a film that seems ripped from the headlines. It is a film about a halfway house for recently released ex-cons that is trying to blend into a safe, middle class neighborhood that doesn't want it. It is about the intersection of middle class values and the occupants of the house, which includes a child molester, a transvestite, a heroin addict, a prison lifer who prefers life on the inside and a killer. It is an edgy look at the idea of forgiveness and the realities of past actions.
This is the film's second festival screening in the Southern California area as it was also featured at the recent Dances With Films Festival in Hollywood. Following this screening it will also be shown at The New York City Independent Film Festival and the prestigious Orlando Film Festival, among other expected selections. If the packed audience response at the previous festival is any indication "Halfway To Hell" should continue to captivate theater-goers everywhere and the list of nominations, and awards, is likely to increase.
Among the film's stars are Tim deZarn (nominated for "Best Supporting Actor"), who has appeared in over 100 film and TV programs including "NYPD Blue" and "Cabin In The Woods," and Lombardo Boyar, another TV veteran who will also be featured in the upcoming feature, "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" and Steven Bochco's "Murder in the First." Michael Emery, from "One Life To Live," "Monk," and "All My Children" also plays one of the key guests at the halfway house.
Richard Friedman's nomination as "Best Director" does not come as a surprise. Friedman is an accomplished director, writer and producer, having directed the award-winning "5th & Alameda" starring Mario Van Peebles, Lionsgate's "Born" starring Allison Brie, and Twentieth Century Fox's "Darkwolf," among other distributed films. He has also directed over 35 episodes of network and syndicated television series as well as several made for television movies, including movies with such notable actors as Joan Chen and Chris Noth.
"Halfway To Hell" screens on Friday night at 8 pm as an opening night feature for Action On Film and shows at The Krikorian Theater at 410 S. Myrtle Ave. in Monrovia. For ticket information go to www.aoffest.com and for more on "Halfway To Hell" go to www.halfwaytohellmovie.com.
