Two days after the game was launched on August 28th, the developer (ArenaNet) halted its first party sales and stopped replenishing retails. The purpose of this move was to ensure that the gaming experience was as good as possible for those who had already purchased the game.

As Mike O'Brien, president and co-founder of ArenaNet explains, "Preserving the customer experience has always been our top priority. We're supporting 'Guild Wars 2' for the long run. We'll always do what it takes to deliver the best online gaming experience for our customers, even when that means throttling sales."

But despite the fact that the sales were halted by both ArenaNet and publisher NCSoft, 'Guild Wars 2' still had a few issues such as players who reported difficulties with connecting to servers, as well as hackers who broke into the gamers' accounts. ArenaNet responded by deploying new servers in Europe and North America, and increasing its total number of customer service agents by two fold. The game was then put back out for sale, and quickly hit the two million copies mark. There are now more than four-hundred thousand people playing 'Guild Wars 2' at any one time.

In a press release, O'Brien went on to explain, "Reactions from around the world justified the time and care we put into developing 'Guild Wars 2' and making it into the game it is today, and this is only the beginning. We're continually fine-tuning the game to deliver the polished experience that our players expect, and we're already working on new adventures and experiences to introduce into this truly dynamic online world."
