"Metro DC is often earning accolades for everything from green buildings, green roofs, green energy and even green college campuses," said Stuart Freudberg with Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments. "But we think it's time to recognize the individuals who are doing their part to help protect the planet by making changes in their own homes and yards - the area's "green" gardeners."
Since June 2010, The Metro DC Lawn and Garden Blog has been "planting and nurturing" ideas for gardeners who want to do a little more to protect the local environment. Sponsored by a group of county and town governments in the DC region, the blog has been a fun and sometimes fiesty place to discuss topics such as conserving and protecting water, eliminating chemicals, gardening for wildlife and planting native species.
"We appreciate our readers...and EVERYONE in the area that practices responsible lawn and garden habits," Freudberg said. "And we want to help encourage their efforts."
