"Fractal Pterodactyls" - Xeno Giraffe's Most Unique Song Released For Digital Upload
Could this be the most remarkable musical composition released in the Fall of 2012? Available for digital release world-wide after more than 9 years of in-studio finessing - "Fractal Pterodactyls" -- a master work of computational music is considered by critics to have one of the most unique musical compositional formats known.
- Atlanta, GA (1888PressRelease) September 17, 2012 - The way humans listen to music has a strong fractal math component, along with pitch, rhythm, and tempo, "Fractal Pterodactyls" is composed of CONTINUOUS variation of melody, harmony, pitch, rhythm, and tempo throughout the entire piece without repetition of musical phrases, or looping, of any kind, yet the human mind HEARS repetition of musical phrases and repetition where none exist. This musical piece was developed to try and understand "What is music? And what makes sound - sound "musical"?
"I pushed the idea to the edge, which is why I didn't have a chance to put a break in it. How far could I take it." said Xeno Giraffe. "I worked on it, off and on, for 10 years before final release. It was very difficult to get everything going, and sounding OK throughout the length of the piece. I worked on it up to the last minute before handing it over for distribution to the fans."
Moving between science fiction based concept albums and experiments in sonic perception has been a long term moving target, bouncing between the two artistic impulses -- of Xeno Giraffe, who started as "a mixed media art project" with music, and evolved over time to "art experiments in sound", starting in 1982, evolving into today's "music for storytelling".
"'Hope and Change' has been my musical philosophy for decades," stated Xeno Giraffe. "I got an email the other day from a fan, and he had been playing some of my CD's from 2003. He claimed they had healing power, because he felt healthier after listening to them. That to me - is the best compliment you can get. Most of my fan base for fractal music is from Sweden and Norway, but he was from South Carolina," said Xeno Giraffe.
Although, "Fractal Pterodactyls" is a break-out from past compositions, there is some stylistic vibes that fall loosely along the sounds other artists like Weather Report, Airto Moreira, and Al DiMeola make - a synthesis of Latin Prog-Rock and Fusion Jazz -- although compositionally developed in a totally different way using fractal music layering, and music studio effect processing -- to position the notes. The unique way the song was created in relation to other music processes puts "Fractal Pterodactyls" in its own music category, while overlapping many genres.
"Over a 10 year period of time, I must have rearranged this piece a hundred times," said Xeno Giraffe. "The notes are so tightly tied together in all this variation that when you move one note - all the other notes have to be moved along with a lot of other musical parameters. Even though I absolutely love this song - it nearly killed me trying to get it right. I could still tinker with it, but I had to finally say 'good enough.'"
A landmark achievement, "Fractal Pterodactyls", pushes the boundaries of our understanding of music to a higher level, with a unique twist in time that has been rarely, if ever, explored to this degree. Timing is tied closely to rhythm, and producing a steady rhythm is the hallmark of much of the current popular music today. "Fractal Pterodactyls" relies on constantly shifting timing, and rhythm from fast to slow to add to the constantly shifting pitch, and constantly shifting note patterns. This is as much an experiment in song writing, as an experiment in sound.

"Hope And Change" is an instrumental acoustic Folk/Rock music single released simultaneously with that of "Fractal Pterodactyls". Traditionally, it would be the B-Side track to a 45 vinyl record, but currently only online digital releases are available, and B-Sides are fading into distant memory with the advent of the digital revolution. A "Kickstarter" type program is being worked on to help "Keep Vinyl Alive" and provide a platform for extreme audiophile listeners, who are looking for a greater than Compact Disc quality experience in music.
Emotionally, what does "hope and change" sound like expressed through guitar? A heartfelt rendition expressed musically about the current state of affairs in the world -- "Fractal Pterodactyls" works on a high intellectual and tricky sonic plain, while "Hope And Change" works at a deeply felt, emotional level. The two songs are book ends to the various music fields, and styles, Xeno Giraffe is exploring and experimenting with.

"I've been called a music producer with a scientific mind, and a curiosity toward the strange," said Xeno Giraffe. "I guess that sums it up. Although, I'm not that big on labels."
