"As his footstep became more faltering, his shoes treading in the blood and leaving scarlet prints on the floor, the chairs swivelled languidly around to confront him. In the inescapable grip of horror, the shotgun fell out of his limp and loosening grasp. He retreated from the frightening sight, his jaw hung slack and loose, as he listed to the sound of wood scraping against wood. If anywhere required a survival guide, then this putrid place could apply for one.

Then from behind him, a coil of barbed wire was strung around his neck, cutting into his arteries deeply and causing blood to gush and squirt outwards. He could sense the warm liquid flow down his neck and under his clothing. Trying to extricate himself from the tightening barbed wire, he glanced over his shoulder and saw the insane face of Hamilton Madden returning his gaze. It was he who was holding onto the coil of barbed wire, his mouth frothing and foaming wildly, his eyes crazed and full of lunacy. Elbowing him in the ribs, Symonds felt the wire loosen its hold over him and took the opportunity to release himself from its grip."
