  • Spokane, WA (1888PressRelease) March 17, 2011 - People to People Ambassador Programs, the world leader in global educational travel experiences, announced the 500 Change My World Forever winners who will receive $1,000 scholarships to travel as Student Ambassadors this summer. The new scholarship initiative by People to People Ambassador Programs drew in 4,850 applications from students all over the country, and the winners were selected based on income, community involvement, scholastic achievement and the quality of their submitted essays.

"It is our hope that through world travel these students can raise their cultural awareness and form international friendships," says Peg Thomas, president of People to People Ambassador Programs. "We expect them to return with increased confidence and perhaps new dreams for college or careers because they were inspired by the places they visit this summer."

As part of the application process, students were asked to contribute a 250-word essay on a single topic. Students could choose to write about how an adventure had influenced their desire to change their world; how they were inspired by someone in a position of leadership; how athletic ability encouraged them to try harder at something; which academics play a key role in developing leadership skills; or any person or experience that has impacted their life and changed them for the better.

One of the winning applicants, Nicholas Ziemer, wrote about the inspiration he receives from his brother who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy: "My brother has taught me to be a leader, helping raise him has been an adventure, I try to encourage him to be athletic despite his disability, and he sometimes gives me a challenge to do good in my academics and always with a smile on his face."

Another winner, Jordon Dobrow, wrote how her grandfather flamed her desire for world travel by giving her a globe at the age of five. Dobrow writes, "From then on, my dreams became the same as his. I would travel to every continent, every city and every place I wanted to go."

People to People Ambassador Programs will be awarding an additional 50 scholarships in a second round of Change My World Forever scholarships for those who enrolled after January 1. Those scholarship winners will be announced in April.
