"100 Outstanding Women of Broward County" Impacts Community and Fulfills Dreams for Local Kids
Successful community and philanthropic women leaders recognized for accomplishments in Fort Lauderdale. Nearly 1200 guests enjoyed night of high fashion, and stories that touched hearts.
- Miami, FL (1888PressRelease) June 16, 2011 - For the third year in a row, The Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County and the Susan B. Anthony Recovery Center were pleased to present the "100 Outstanding Women of Broward County" on Thursday, May 12th at The Signature Grand in Davie, Florida. The "100 Outstanding Women of Broward County" gala brought the Broward community together to celebrate how far women have come in leadership roles in the business, community and philanthropic fields.
Highlights from the evening's gala included an impressive sold out, "who's who" audience of almost 1,200 people coming together to celebrate and honor one hundred outstanding women leaders in the Broward community.
The recognition gala dinner began with an extended social cocktail hour, combined with a tremendous silent auction where guests mingled and honorees reveled in their honor while being filmed by numerous television and magazine crews; children from the clubs made the rounds selling raffle tickets.
An initial presentation introduced the 100 honorees who entered down the stage to cheers of their supporters. These divergent women who have dedicated themselves to making our community a better place through their selfless giving back, share a vision of endless support for those in need the most. A three course dinner including Beef Wellington followed along with program, with Julia Yarbough serving as emcee for the event. Ms. Yarbough, a two time Emmy Award winning broadcast journalist and news anchor is currently on a life changing road trip, "Highway to a Husband", which the adventure and blog is attracting national attention. Her winning smile and poised speaking led the listeners to more life changing and touching stories by Susan B. Anthony recipients, who spoke of their despair and how it affected their family. With help from these organizations, that got turned around for these families, to reunite to a life of health and happiness, and providing a better place and opportunities for their kids and for the future of all.
A riveting live auction had guests in bidding wars. Live auction items entertained, and enticed the guests to bid and benefit both the charities further, with an amazing offering of trips, including a Cabo paradise week stay, Waldorf Astoria New York Pampering Package for four, with lavish VIP treatment. Other travel packages include a trip for four, to five separate destinations, including a glitzy four night stay in Las Vegas, a three night wilderness adventure in a comfy tree top home, numerous Florida resort trips, and a luxury "Sky's the Limit" Bluegreen destination suite resort of the bidder's choice anywhere in the US. In addition to all of the destination packages, Rene Ruiz Couture donated a generous talk of the town $10,000. gift to one lucky auction recipient, towards any couture, custom design or tux of their choosing. Exquisite ensemble jewelry of south seas pearls, sapphires, peridot and diamonds for the discerning patron was provided by Daoud's Fine Jewelry.
After the auction, twenty children from the Boys & Girls Clubs, dressed in fine attire donated by an anonymous donor, marched through the room asking for "Gifts from the Heart". They carried signs of large red hearts, while the auctioneer rallied the crowd to reach deep into their pockets for the sake of these kids.
A high end fashion show by well known, Miami based fashion designer Rene Ruiz followed. Rene Ruiz Couture designs men's and women's ready to wear, resort, wedding dresses and custom couture, and is collected by celebrities such as Enrique Inglesias, Paris Hilton, and Kimora Lee Simmons. Rene Ruiz, who studied in the US, moved to Florence and Paris to fine hone his skills, and worked under a pattern maker of Valentino, learning how a good couture cut makes all the difference in drape. Ninety outfits from the Spring 2011 Collection of spectacular fabric and fine "made in America" craftsmanship, augmented by Daoud's Fine Jewelry magnificent gems, were shown on fifteen male and female models in professional catwalk fashion, with an explosive ending of a rush of all neutral evening gowns, that wowed the crowd to ovation.
Prestigious women community leaders in attendance included Dawn Stagliano, Marcia Barry-Smith, Polly Wilkie, Marge Osceola, Kimarie Stratos, Gale Butler and Linda Von Allmen. Sponsors thanked included: BB&T, Rene Ruiz, DEX imaging,inc., and Lifestyles Magazine.
Further recognition and benefit for the 100 outstanding honorees included hair styling and makeup provided for the ladies for their portraits at the event; a private viewing and luncheon with the designer, Rene Ruiz at his showroom and design studio; and a follow up dinner party for all the honorees to mingle and become better acquainted with their prestigious counterparts of the Broward community.

All the proceeds from this special event, "100 Outstanding Women of Broward County" recognizing women's accomplishments benefitted the missions of Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County and the Susan B Anthony Recovery Center.

The Susan B Anthony Recovery Center is the only residential treatment program in Broward County that houses mothers with their children while providing the intensive services needed to "stop the cycle" of family dysfunction and substance addiction. SBARC addresses the special issues that women face while in recovery from the disease of substance addiction while keeping the family intact and out of the foster care system.
